piedmont center for the arts on Friday, august 12, 2016 at 7pm
On Friday, August 12th, the Piedmont Center for the Arts will be pleased to welcome Mannakin Theater and Dance and their program “Dances from Serbia,” showcasing Dalija Imanich principal dancer with the Serbian National Ballet, and Artistic Director of Mannakin Theater and Dance, Nathan Cottam. The duo will perform works from the stage of the National Theater in Belgrade, together with photos and stories of their experiences touring Serbia.
On the program will be two duets from the ballet adaptation of the Serbian classic movie, “Who is Singing Over There?” a film set in World War II that depicts an ill-fated bus journey to Belgrade from the rural parts of the country.
Ms. Imanich and Mr. Cottam met in 2012, when Nathan arrived in Belgrade to accept a contract to perform with the National Ballet. They shared the stage for the first time in October of that year and have since been seen by audiences all over Serbia on tours produced by Mr. Cottam’s Mannakin Theater and Dance. This will be Dalija’s first trip to the United States.
